2008 Internationalizing Michigan Education Conference: Building Bridges from Michigan to the World

All the economic, political and social trends point to the need for Michigan's students to be ready as never before to understand and engage in the wider world in which we live. The second annual Internationalizing Michigan Education conference is scheduled for April 18, 2008 at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on the campus of MSU.

This conference is designed to improve opportunities to stimulate thinking about high school design in order to promote:

• Successful implementation of rigorous high school standards
• Relevant high school academic study for each learner
• The necessary relationships to foster academic success
• Understanding of strategies practiced by model high schools
• A supportive and collaborative network among those partners that deliver secondary education in Michigan

Two exemplary Michigan middle-grades schools have been identified as “Schools to Watch”

Two exemplary Michigan middle-grades schools have been identified as “Schools to Watch” as part of a recognition program developed by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform. The following schools are part of a group of 47 schools across the country receiving this distinction:
• Belding Middle School—Belding
• Ludington Magnet School—Detroit

While there were only about 100 advisers there, the energy that circulated made it feel like twice as many! This past Thursday/Friday, January 24-25, MASSP hosted advisers from around Michigan at the MASC/MAHS Annual State Advisers Conference in Mt. Pleasant. We kicked off the evening with Karen Dawson, who shared tales of humor and inspiration and provided advisers some much needed laughs and the reinforcement to keep doing what they're doing - leading student leaders. Who knew you could do so much with a paper plate!?!?

2007 Fall Conference

The Fall conference was a great success. Jack Brown, Associate Principal at Capital Area Career Center was named the 2007 CTE Administrator of the Year. Congratulations Jack!

At Monday morning's CTE Breakfast, CTE Administrators had an opportunity to listen to Jan Bray, Executive Director of ACTE. Jan's presentation was very infomative and well recieved. Jan presented 2 breakout session following the breakfast.
