Advanced Placement Summer Institutes will again be offered at Michigan public high schools during the summer of 2017. The program features a full slate of sessions that will be led by consultants of the College Board from around the country.

Dates and locations include:

June 26-29 at Grand Blanc High School
July 17-20 at East Kentwood High School

Please note the following special emphases this summer:

INTRODUCTION OF HUMAN GEOGRAPHY AND MUSIC THEORY: These sessions have not been offered in Michigan for many years; in the meantime, the number of schools offering these courses has grown substantially. This is a great opportunity to get training in these unique courses.

ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE: The Flint water crisis will be a topic of study as a part of John Madden's APES session at Grand Blanc (located 10 miles south of Flint).

PRE-AP SESSIONS IN ENGLISH, MATH AND HISTORY: These APSIs will also be hosting Pre-AP sessions for teacher vertical teams in English, math and history/social studies; teachers who are seeking to align their curriculum with the College Readiness Standards so as to provide their students with strong preparation for AP courses will find great support at these sessions. English will run at Grand Blanc; History and math will be running at East Kentwood.

US GOVERNMENT AND POLITICS: The redesign for this popular course is coming soon; getting early information is always a good idea.

OTHER STUFF: East Institutes is Michigan's only source for APSI training in Economics, Studio Art, Computer Science A, Physics 2, Environmental Science and Pre-AP subjects.

These APSIs are hosted by Michigan public high schools and deliver great PD for new and experienced AP and Pre-AP teachers. These APSIs will be managed by East Institutes, LLC, and will be directed by Dr. Mike Hobolth, whose APSIs have provided professional development for over 3000 AP teachers since 2008.

Registration includes materials and breakfast and lunch for all four days. SCHECHs and graduate credit through Central Michigan University are also available.
