Earlier this week, the College Board hosted a webinar about the switch to the PSAT 8/9 for 8th graders across the state. If you missed this important information or want to watch it again, here's your chance! Click here to access a video of the 45-minute webinar.

MASSP will also be posting the summary and slides from the webinar once they are made available from the College Board. In the meantime, we've created this handy one-page document summarizing the details of each section the test.

Dig Into the PSAT 8/9 - Workshop Opportunity

You're going to feel a significant shift next year when the PSAT 8/9 replaces the ELA and Math portions of the M-STEP assessment in 8th grade. Are you ready? The curriculum, instruction and logistical considerations will require administrators and staff to become familiar with the College Board suite of assessments - as soon as possible. Don't worry! We're here to help with the process!

MASSP has designed a new one-day workshop that:

  • Familiarizes staff with the PSAT 8/9 assessment
  • Assists with planning for curriculum and instructional shifts
  • Introduces the College Board reporting portal
  • Highlights College Board requirements in terms of special education accommodations, permitted calculators, room set up and general testing considerations
  • Provides information that can be shared with parents and students about a PSAT 8/9 night

This great PD opportunity is most beneficial to schools that send a team inclusive of a principal and counselor, as well as a teacher of 8th grade ELA, Math and possibly special education. Then, you can share back the information with all staff and stakeholders.

Upcoming regionally located workshops include:
June 15 in Clinton Township
June 20 in Plymouth
Aug. 7 in Lansing

For details on these upcoming workshops, visit our website. We can also come to your district/ISD! Contact MASSP's Brad Gray at brad@michiganprincipals.org for more information.

College Board Counselor Workshops

Recently, Michigan counselors or other school personnel may have received an email about the College Board’s Counselor Workshops, which traditionally take place in the fall. These workshops provide information about College Board assessments and programs from a national perspective. The Counselor Workshops for Michigan will be scheduled for September of 2018. For the past three years, the College Board Michigan field team has also presented Implementation Workshops on the same days as the Counselor Workshops to provide information about the Michigan administration of the SAT Suite of Assessments as a part of MME.

This year, the College Board Michigan field team will schedule the Implementation workshops later. This will allow them to provide the most up-to-date and comprehensive information on the Michigan administration, including the most accurate information on the implementation of the PSAT 8/9 in 8th grade in the spring of 2019.

  • Middle school educators should not sign up for the national Counselor Workshops – rather they should attend the Implementation Workshops that will be held later in the fall.

  • High school staff should be represented at both kinds of workshops. Registration links for the Implementation Workshops will be published once the scheduling is completed.
