Build CHAMPIONS in your buildings for students.

If you are at one of the MASSP Mid-Year Summits, you will learn that we believe that school reform is not only possible, but almost statistically guaranteed by investing in building programs and activities, as well as pairing staff passions to meeting the needs of our students.
The MASC/MAHS Student Leadership organization (an affiliate of MASSP) has joined other nationwide leaders in developing students to have opportunities within their middle and high schools by following a simple three-step challenge. We believe that in regards to student activities (student council, athletics, arts, and even off-the-wall things that involve even the most disconnected students) if the school commits to make the time, promote the value, and be a champion for students in your building, you will see performance indicators rise such as:
- Attendance
- Participation in school goals and activities
- Increased standardized test scores (from 2-6% depending on when measured)
- Preparedness for college and careers by all standards
- Practically ELIMINATING the chance that an at-risk student will drop out.
If you've seen the presentation, excellent! If you haven't--join us! As a nationwide collaboration of talent, the slideshow and presentation are not available for distribution online, but a copy of the introductory video and sides specially prepared for administrator, parent, faculty, and student activity advisers are available for purchase at www.letxequalsa.com.
Here's the AWESOME part!! As an active affiliate, if your building belongs to the MASC/MAHS Student Leadership Organization, you will get monthly supporting materials to anyone on our mailing lists. Consider making sure your school is in the know on how to build the best climate you can by becoming involved.
This presentation, and many others are available for presentations by Todd Burlingham, Director of Student Services in your building. Consider us for your new student orientation, faculty development, parent groups or meetings, or even whole-school assemblies--we're ready to serve!
No matter what Michigan schools are facing, let's commit to being CHAMPIONS for kids, any time any place, any way, any pace.
