Great Common Core Resources

In my travels around the state meeting with Principals it is clear that we are all over the place regarding implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Achieve is a leading organization in helping states to make this transition. In their workbook titled, “Implementing Common Core State Standards and Assessments” they pose a number of critical questions to help you assess your school/districts current status in the implementation process:

In addition to the workbook mentioned above Achieve.org has an amazing amount of materials for Common Core implementation including instruction support and alignment resources as well as implementation and planning tools. Achieve also has a helpful document titled, “Common Core State Standards & Career and Technical Education”. To access these materials and more: http://www.achieve.org/achieving-common-core
Another great website is America Achieves. When you click the link, you will need to create a log in by scrolling to the bottom of the screen and following the prompts (less than 2 minutes), then you will have full access to the site which includes: lesson modules that contain a video of a common core lesson, a printable lesson plan, a resource box of related materials (including samples of student work) and filters to help you identify common core shifts in action. The site is K-12 and it really is awesome. If you click the “find a video” tab at the top of the home page you can see the various videos available by lesson name, subject and grade. The videos and materials would be perfect for a staff meeting or professional development sessions: http://commoncore.americaachieves.org/
One additional resource that may be of assistance is the Ohio Department of Education website. When you click on one of the Standards and Model Curricula you will see a list of curricula available by grade level…scroll down to the bottom and you can click on transition, resources and professional development tabs. Each tab is full of ready to use information and resources: http://www.ode.state.oh.us/GD/Templates/Pages/ODE/ODEDedicatedPage.aspx?...
There are so many resources available on Common Core it can be difficult to sort through when you do a general Google search. As MASSP becomes aware of resources we will continue to feature them on the website as a service to the membership.
Please note that Common Core will be a topic of focus at this year’s Mid-Winter Summit events:
- High School and CTE Principals: Dec. 3-4 at Soaring Eagle
- Middle Level Principals: Jan. 14-15 at the Amway Grand
- Assistant Principals and Deans: Feb. 4-5 at the Amway Grand
Please plan to join us for these important professional development opportunities, we have secured National speakers and will be sure to allow time for critical networking.
