Do the Math: MASSP Addresses Mathematics for All in the Michigan Merit Curriculum
Following the theme of “Building Instructional Leadership”, MASSP has joined with the Michigan Department of Education, Michigan Association of School Administrators, North Central Accreditation association and the Education Trust to tackle the "math problems" that many educators are encountering as they implement the Michigan Merit Mathemtics curriculum.
MASSP, MASA and EdTrust will kick off our professional development series by conducting a Math Opportunity Audit session on October 30, 2008 here in Lansing at the MELG Building for district teams who want to look deeply into the math program at their building.
Working collaboratively a building team of the superintendent/curriculum director, the building principal and or assistant principal, counselor, mathematics department chair and other math instructors, the team will examine their school’s data. The team will take a thorough look at the school’s master schedule, student transcripts, classroom assignments and interventions in place to find gaps in programming and instruction with all the important players right in the room to make changes and improvements for their students. Registration information is coming soon!
Save the Date! MASSP, MDE, MASA and EdTrust are also sponsoring a Math Summit on March 5, 2008 at the MSU Kellogg Center to gather teams from all around the state, as well as university instructors and math support providers, to take a look at the state of mathematics instruction for all students in Michigan. Watch for regular updates as the Summit approaches.
