#MASSPchat - Staff PD

As you head toward the second half of the school year let's talk about Professional Development for your staff. Teachers routinely complain about the "prison workshop" model that many district employ – where the entire staff attends whether you need to learn the information being shared or not. There are certainly times when a systemic approach is important and all teachers need to be included...but there are also occasions where it's likely there are staff members sitting through PD that just is not relevant to their work or what they need to learn. How can we do a better job of supporting the learning needs of our teaching staff?

This Week's Questions: (one posted each day)

  • Q1 (Monday): As you consider how building PD time will be spent what staff members do you include in the discussion and what data do you use to inform the topics that you will address? #masspchat
  • Q2 (Tuesday): Have you been able to differentiate your PD time to meet the learning needs of your staff members? No? Yes, if so how? #masspchat
  • Q3 (Wednesday): Do you look at your classroom observation data (rubric indicators) to determine areas where staff needs support & training? #masspchat
  • Q4 (Thursday): Do you have staff members completing any online training modules that they have found valuable (such as EduPaths or LearnPort)? #masspchat
  • Q5 (Friday): What PD restrictions/limitations keep you from providing your teachers with the support you know they need? #masspchat
