Membership = An Administrator's Lifeline

It's that time of year again – yes, the students are coming! But it also means that your membership is in need of renewing for this school year. If you haven't done so yet, I encourage you to send in your MASSP membership for 2012-13 to make sure that you continue to receive the benefits that are important to you as a building leader, including your legal coverage.

You should have received a renewal form when school let out in the spring. It's OK if you can't find it – you can download a new form here. Then just mail or fax it in to us. If you think you already took care of your membership, first check with your business office. That's the likely place where these forms often get tied up or misplaced in the flurry of activity. You can also always call our office at 517-327-5315 and we will be happy to help you.

You'll also notice a few changes with membership for this school year. We understand that times are tough and funding is tighter than ever. We pride ourselves on maintaining membership dues, while offering even more quality services. That's why there continues to be NO dues increase for MASSP. However, based on your feedback, we are offering a wider variety of membership options that are more "Business Office friendly" which will hopefully allow you to use funds set aside for membership that can also include a variety of MASSP ala carte services. Most importantly, we want to make sure you renew your membership and encourage other colleagues to join the Association so that we can be there for you. We know how tough your job is day in and day out and that sometimes you might feel like you're all alone on an island. That's why MASSP is here.

Your annual membership gives you access to Weblines, Marshall Memo and other important email updates, including legislative action as it's happening. You also receive professional development discounts, website access which includes the Principal's Help Desk, Principal Checklists and other tools to help make your job just a little bit easier. In addition, members also receive legal coverage. If an issue arises, all you have to do is pick up the phone and call our office and we'll take care of you and make sure you have the advice and support you need.

In closing, I want you to know how much we appreciate your loyalty to MASSP and hope that you will encourage those who are in new administrative positions or aspiring to the principalship to join us. As a principal who works as hard as you do there's just no reason for you to lack the vital support and protection we can provide.

Please do not hesitate to contact the MASSP office at 517-327-5315 for membership questions or any other assistance you may need. All of the MASSP staff are here to help!
