Michigan Talent Pool Still Accepting Recommendations (MEMO #045-18)

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is still seeking recommendations for the Michigan Talent Pool, a running list of emerging leaders consisting of distinguished teachers and principals. These educators may be considered for membership on advisory boards and task forces, as well as candidates for recognition programs.

The Michigan Talent Pool is currently lacking representation from educators relatively new to the profession who demonstrate unusual instructional and leadership ability. Such persons exhibit strong potential for professional leadership and inspiring presence that impacts students, colleagues, and community.

MDE invites you to recommend distinguished early-to-mid career educators who offer strong long-range potential for professional and policy leadership who have:

  • Demonstrated exceptional educational talent as evidenced by effective instructional practices and student learning results in the classroom and school;
  • Exemplary educational accomplishments beyond the classroom that provide models of excellence for the profession;
  • Contributions to education that are largely unheralded, yet are worthy of the spotlight;
  • An engaging and inspiring presence that motivates and impacts students, colleagues, and the community.

To submit a Michigan Talent Pool recommendation, please complete the Online Talent Pool Recommendation Form which includes a one-page letter of recommendation explaining how the nominee meets the above criteria. Please note that these recommendations are confidential and should not be discussed with the recommended educator or others in your school or community.
