My Friend John Says "Watch-out"

...In addition, the lists of students may change daily as schools link (or attempt to link) the UIC's. Administrators would be wise to secure the documentation to support the exit code changes and then monitor CEPI's site for any changes. The UIC linking option ends April 21st, so building administrators have to get this done ASAP...

One person I really trust when it comes to child accounting rules and strategies in my friend John Petitto, Assistant Principal of Avondale HS. It's been my experience when John says, "our members need to know this" he's usually right on. Here an email I received from him this week - April 9, 2008.

"We need to get building administrators caught up on this. (John's referring to the window of opportunity you have to correct CEIPI data.) Unlike previous years where data folks could "fudge" the EDN numbers to make it all fit, the new cohort formula does not allow this. Right now (through April) the window is open to change the exit codes in order to positively impact graduation rates and the drop-out rates. From the response in Lansing and Marquette, building administrators are not aware of what is about to fall into their collective laps. Paul Bielewski from CEPI even remarked that the building administrators won't know what will be hitting them. he even asked me to contact you to figure a way to get them caught up. I can do this session and tie it in with AYP.In addition, I got NO response from my list - serve question about how many first time freshmen failed their first semester class, but passed the content mastery with a high enough score to earn credit."

"When I called a couple of folks, I got "what are you talking about?" I don't think folks have a grasp of the implications of the MMC.Finally, I think building administrators need to talk about Question 13 from the FAC on the MMC. That question deals with attendance policies and credit."

My two cents!

Take care,John
