National Honor Society Appeal Process

1. A student seeking an appeal of the decision to deny admission into the National Honor Society (NHS) shall submit to the principal within five (5) days after receipt of notice of the admission denial a written request stating the reason(s) for reconsideration for admission.
a. Within ten (10) days of receipt of a request for admission reconsideration review by the Review Panel, the principal shall notify the NHS advisor, the student and the Review Panel of the time, date and place of the Review Panel meeting. This meeting shall occur not less than seven (7) or more than fifteen (15) days after receipt of the request for review.

2. The Review Panel shall meet at a time, date and place designated by the principal.

3. At the Review Panel meeting:
a. The NHS advisor shall state the reason for the denial, provide a copy of any written procedure pursuant to which admission eligibility was determined, and state the rationale for the admission denial.
b. The student shall be given an opportunity to state the reason(s) for the request for reconsideration. Any written information as may be deemed appropriate by the principal will be accepted for review by the panel. The review panel will not accept additional qualifications, or items that would enhance the application as a result of information shared in the admission denial letter.
c. All persons except the review panel shall be excused.
d. The Review Panel shall determine, by majority vote, whether or not the admission decision is reversed.

4. The decision of the Review Panel shall be communicated, in writing, to the NHS Advisor, and the student as soon as practical.

5. The decision of the Review Panel is final.
