October Is Principals Month

Principals typically don't get much recognition, so during the month of October, which is recognized as both Michigan and National Principals Month, we are going to celebrate the great work that all of you do!

Principals are generally so concerned about everyone else's morale that you don't think about your own. Throughout the month, MASSP will be putting the spotlight on YOU – the leader who gets up early, stays up late and goes above and beyond to get the job done. Thank you for your service to your schools, students, staff and your community!

To kick off this great celebration, we've compiled a number of resources you can share and use to give kudos to your colleagues. Also be sure to spread the word about what you’re doing by posting to social media with #ThankAPrincipal.

Shadowing Visits: Shadowing visits provide a wonderful opportunity for your elected officials (state representatives and senators, members of Congress and congressional staffers, etc.) to experience firsthand the role and responsibilities of exemplary Principals. It also provides an occasion to highlight the excellence in leadership that Principals provide to schools, educators, and students everywhere. Use this template email to invite your legislators to shadow you for a day.

Social Media Toolkit: Here are a number of sample social media posts to spread the word and celebrate Principals Month this October.

E-cards: Here are ready-made templates you can use to send an e-card to your fellow Principals thanking them for all they do. Just choose an e-card, add your message, and schedule the date and time for the card to be delivered.
