Practice PSAT/NMSQT Released's picture

Just in time for ACT week, The College Board has just released a practice PSAT/NMSQT that is aligned to the new, redesigned SAT standards. This test is grade appropriate for students in 10th and 11th grade, so you could have your sophomores take this next week while your juniors are hard at work on the ACT.

The College Board is still working on a practice test for the new PSAT/NMSQT 8/9, which unfortunately will not be available in time for next week's testing window. However, they have assured us that, while they don't have a date yet for releasing that redesigned 8/9 test, it is in progress.

The College Board has suggested that if you would like to give this practice PSAT/NMSQT to 9th graders, that you should consider doing so without timing the test or allowing them to work in small groups (see the Teachers' Guide below for more information).

Below, you will find links to five documents that The College Board is offering for you to download and print for your classroom use:

  1. Practice PSAT/NMSQT Test – A sample test form of the PSAT/NMSQT has been developed by College Board for students to use to become familiar not only with the PSAT/NMSQT but the redesigned SAT as well.

  2. Practice Answer Sheet – The answer sheet is a simulation of the actual answer sheet used for PSAT/NMSQT and SAT testing.

  3. Answer Explanations – This document provides rationales for the best answers to each item. For each question, this document provides the text of the question, the keyed response, an explanation of why the keyed response is the best answer and why the other options are incorrect. The Practice Answer Key, the keyed response to each question in the practice form, can be found on the last page of this document.

  4. Completed Answer Key – MASSP has taken the Practice Answer Sheet and the Answer Explanations (both linked above) and done the work of creating a completed answer sheet that you can use as a key.

  5. Teachers’ Guide - This guide provides several instructional strategies to use in the classroom with the practice PSAT/NMSQT.

Best of luck to everyone for next week!
