PSAT 8/9 for 8th Grade Webinar & Workshop Opportunity's picture

PSAT 8/9 will be administered in 8th grade starting in Spring 2019 for accountability in ELA and math. The College Board is offering a free introductory webinar on May 22, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. to provide brief information on the assessment, 2019 test dates, accommodations, reporting features and how to begin preparing for the 8th grade administration. This webinar is a great way to learn a bit about the test itself and the College Board assessment system! If your middle level Principal is not an MASSP member please make sure you share information about this great opportunity. To register for the webinar, visit:

Workshop Opportunity

In addition, MASSP has put together a great full day workshop titled: "PSAT 8/9 Digging In." This one-day session takes attendees through sample items and helps to explain the layout of the test, as well as testing requirements (e.g. special education accommodations and testing set-up). We have already run two sessions of the workshop and feedback was overwhelmingly positive.

Comments from participants included:

"I am so glad that I learned more about PSAT 8/9 now so that I'll have the opportunity to adjust lesson plans and content over the summer."

"The PSAT 8/9 is a really rigorous assessment. It is very different than what students have experience on the MSTEP, we will need to do a lot of work with the kids to prepare them for the change."

"Before this workshop I didn't even know we were changing from MSTEP at 8th grade to PSAT 8/9. I am concerned about the number of questions and the time allocated- our students haven't had strictly timed tests with MSTEP."

"I am amazed at all the resources available for PSAT 8/9 through the College Board! I'm also looking forward to getting the data in a timely manner and in a useable reporting portal. The workshop helped me to learn what will be coming. Thank you!"

In most cases we are seeing schools bring teams to the workshop and this seems to be a great approach! Teams have generally included: the Principal, 8th grade ELA & Math teachers, Special Education co-teachers, counselors and/or testing coordinators. When you leave the workshop you will be provided with the slide deck and all of the handouts used we have created so that you can use all of the workshop activities with your full staff.

We have 5 locations currently scheduled - and one is already SOLD OUT, so register your group and reserve your space today! If your school/district/ISD is interested in bringing this workshop to your area please email MASSP's Brad Gray at We are happy to schedule a session and come to you.
