SB-CEUs…SCECHs…What Does It All Mean?

Some people refer to them as SB-CEUs, continuing ed credits, CEUs, or the newest term on the block: SCECHs (State Continuing Education Clock Hours). No matter what you call them, you still need them to renew your certificate. So, it's worth reading this short summary on the recent MDE changes.

Sure there's a new name, but the process hasn't changed much. Here at MASSP, we just wanted to make sure that you are aware of the changes and how to ensure that your credits are up-to-date. Here are the facts you need to know:

  • All of the rules that were followed for SB-CEUs, now apply to the SCECHs. They will still be awarded through the Secure Central Registry (SCR) and an online evaluation is still required after you attend a professional development event. You MUST submit the survey or you will not receive credits. If you do not take the supplied survey there is unfortunately nothing we can do to help.

  • SB-CEUs that you previously earned (within the appropriate time period) can still be used for renewal. You can always see how many hours you have "banked" by logging onto the Secure Central Registry website.

  • The Secure Central Registry will now show participant credits in Hours. Conversion is simple: the amount of SB-CEUs x 10 = clock hours earned. For example, .5 SB-CEUs = 5 SCECHs.

MASSP will continue to offer clock hour credits at no additional charge at its professional development events. We encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity at our workshops and conferences to continue building your credit balance.
