School Management Associations Join Forces to Oppose Prop 2 & 5

This week five school management associations—MASSP, MASA, MASB, MAISA, and MSBO—teamed up in opposing Proposals 2 and 5. On Tuesday, the group released a joint statement announcing their opposition and has just launched a web page (www.stop2and5.com) where members of all five associations can access information about the initiatives.

The message being trumpeted by the education management community focuses on the impact of Proposals 2 and 5 on teacher quality, recent reforms, and student outcomes. This provides a clear, positive, education-centered emphasis, which is very different from the sometimes anti-union tone taken by other groups opposing Proposal 2.

The new www.stop2and5.com website has talking points, background info, and other resources for educators who may face questions in their community about the proposals. MASSP has also prepared a one-page front-and-back informational handout for each of the initiatives aimed specifically at the issues most important to principals. You can access those documents here:

Because of the huge potential for negative consequences if either of these proposals was to pass, we urge members to speak out against these initiatives in their communities.
