The report released today by the Center for Michigan entitled "The Public's Agenda for Public Education" validates the strategy for reform embraced by Michigan's secondary school principals and embodied in the important work of the Michigan Council on Educator Effectiveness. Michigan needs a strong, reliable, and fair system of educator evaluations that provides teachers, administrators and the community with the information they need to improve instruction. However, evaluations are only one tool. In order to improve outcomes for students, Michigan's educators need strong support for improving instruction in the form of more and better professional development and improved assessment and data systems. By working hand in hand with Michigan's citizens on our shared vision for education reform, our schools, communities, educators and parents can drive positive change for students.
