Stop 2 and 5: Write a Letter to the Editor Opposing Prop 5

Even with the increasing popularity of social media, writing a letter to the editor of your local paper is still one of the simplest and most effective ways to shape public opinion. Voters still look to their local newspapers for information and opinions on how they should vote.
This week, MASSP is asking you to engage in the debate over Proposal 5 by sending a letter to the editor voicing your opposition. Proposal 5 would require a supermajority two-thirds vote of the legislature in order to raise or adjust taxes, making it practically and politically improbable that Michigan would ever be able to modernize its tax structure or respond to emergencies. At the same time, the proposal would continue to allow legislators to pass tax loopholes and special interest tax credits, slowly eroding our state's tax base.
MASSP has teamed up with MASA to make engagement easier and faster than ever. Click here to visit the MASA Grassroots Advocacy website where you can sign your name to a pre-drafted letter to the editor, edit a letter to make it your own, or write your own letter. Just type in your zip code, fill in your name and click send and the system will make sure your letter gets out to your local media outlet.
