When is it time to move on?

I've been in the principalship eight years now. I sent my first four years working in a very small district. In my last year there the board of education was clearly running the superintendent out. I made a choice to continue to work for the superintendent and not individual board members. That choice certainly did not endear me to the board. So, when the superintendent left I chose to leave also.

I am now working in a larger building. When taking this job, the superintendent wanted change yesterday. The building was stubborn and was known to have some of the more difficult staff member to work with. Change was made and most was made without building consensus. Many of the "old guard" were offended by changes that were made. Progress was made on the MEAP, although we still lag behind the more affluent neighboring districts. This year I have a new superintendent. He has made it clear that he is concerned with both leading the area scores and building moral. Now, I am contemplating another move. Although I still believe our scores will continue to rise, I may not be the right person to make the "old guard" happier. What circumstances lead others to look at different opportunities?
