When Is the Principal’s Summit?

For many years, MASSP has offered “Mid-Winter Summits” as multi-day conferences for building administrators – one specifically geared for Principals and the other tailored to meet the needs of Assistant Principals and Deans. After following up with participants at each of these events, we received quite a bit of feedback and subsequently made some changes to our professional development opportunities.

We heard from principals that the legal and legislative keynotes were something that they really needed and wanted to continue hearing. However, the difficulty seemed to be the time that went with traveling to a location for a two-day event, as well as the expense of an overnight. To meet this need, while also addressing participant’s concerns, MASSP will not be hosting a Principal’s Summit this year. Instead, we have scheduled a one-day Legal Hot Topics and Legislative Update with attorney Lisa Swem and Bob Kefgen, MASSP’s lobbyist, on January 15 in Lansing. We hope that the central location and one-day time frame will better meet the needs of our busy members. Seating is limited for this event. To register, please click here.

MASSP will continue to offer the Assistant Principal and Dean’s Summit as a two-day event. There are limited opportunities that are specific to this group of building administrators. Those who have attended the AP Summit in the past reported really appreciating the information they learned, as well as networking opportunity with colleagues. The focus of the last few AP Summits has been on legal and managerial responsibilities of administrators in these positions. This year, we plan to focus more on developing leadership qualities and the instructional aspects of the job. The AP and Dean’s Summit will be held on January 28-29 at Crystal Mountain. To register for the event, please click here.

As a reminder, MASSP’s main learning opportunity of the year is EdCon. Please mark your calendars for June 24-26 and join us in Traverse City. EdCon is a great experience for every building leader. We have already booked fantastic keynote speakers, including Jimmy Cassas and Laura Hilger, and are planning dozens of breakout sessions to meet the needs of middle level, high school and CTE administrators.

We hope to see you at these popular MASSP events to help you grow your professional practice and leadership abilities. Information on all of our events will be posted to the website as it becomes available. If you have any questions in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the MASSP office.
