Online / Integrated Learning Solutions
Jackson County is currently exploring solutions to provide on-line or integrated student assistance in core curriculum areas.
The parameters for the solutions we are exploring are:
a. meet the MMC on-line requirement
b. be engaging for the student
c. allow for credit recovery
d. allow for tutorial preparation / catch-up
e. allow for "first time" option for receiving credit
f. be cost-effective for a countywide purchase
g. be compatible with all operating systems
h. meet Michigan Merit Curriculum standards
My questions are:
1. Does your district currently have a solution in place to address these needs? (If done as an ISD/RESD/RESA or other regional entity please indicate in your response.)
2. If so, what solution(s) are you using?

Does anyone have clear guidelines/procedures/policies for retention at the middle school level?
Please post:
-handbook language
-process map/ timeline of communication to parents and student
-board policy
-sample letters
-factors that define why a student is retained

Ninth Grade Academy Data
I am looking for data that specifically illustrates the effectiveness of implementing a ninth grade academy or advisory program. It would be especially beneficial if the data reflected progress in attendance, discipline and academics.
On a global scale, I am looking at addressing the high school dropout rate as students transition from middle to high school.
Would it also be beneficial to start a ninth grade group through MASSP that may exchange information similar to the request above on a regular basis?
Thank you,

A teacher agressively shook a student who was sleeping. I have searched the School Code but can find no reference to this issue
How would you respond to the teacher?

Are any of you currently using Saturday school as a consequence for behavior?
If so, I would like to contact you to discuss your program. Thanks for your help.

How are people structuring the second period of double block math?
Are you adding additional material that block or are you using it as a support time for the first block?

If you have AP Stats, please forward this to your instructor and post the textbook that they use. We are starting the course next year and would like to know what everyone is using. Thanks!

What effective discipline procedures are being employed by middle schools?
We are currently looking at the way our discipline system is being implemented and is it really working? Are detentions and suspensions changing behavior? Just wanted opinions on positive behavior supports, in-school suspension, etc. What is working for you? Thanks for your input and assistance.

Does anyone have an "Age of Majority" (18 Year Old Status) Policy
We are looking to adopt a policy that is consistent with state law yet ensures that 18 year old students are still being held accountable.

Center 2 Members I am looking for your feedback
I would like to plan a Center 2 meeting! Please offer your thoughts on the following.
1) What topics would be of interest to you. In others, what topics would get you to the meeting?
2) What location is agreeable? My high school(Grayling High School) looks to be, at least on paper in the center of our region.
3) What time of day is the best? I will go with the majority.
Thanks for your responses. I will plan a meeting in the next few months. Doniel

Points for Honors classes?
Does your high school give points for Honors classes that will provide the students with a little bump in GPA?

Class rank factors
What schools use factors other than GPA to determine class rank i.e. ACT, MME, SAT scores, other.....and what is your formula?

Reading Intervention Course
Has anyone at the H. S. level implemented a reading intervention class for 9th / 10th graders? If so, what criteria is used for placement and what materials/instructional approach is being used?

Any middle schools using or considering trimesters?
Like many districts, my high school is on trimesters. The benefits are many for them, but questions remain for middle level. How do interdisciplinary teams fit into this model if they can? Does the longer class period work developmentally? Are core classes offered year round? Any responses would be helpful!
